Ilya Sutskever, the former chief scientist at OpenAI and a co-founder of the organization, has successfully secured $1 billion in funding for his new AI venture, Safe Superintelligence (SSI). This ambitious project aims to develop advanced AI systems that surpass human capabilities.
According to Reuters, Investors in SSI include prominent venture capital firms such as Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Sequoia Capital, DST Global, and SV Angel, as well as NFDG, a partnership led by Nat Friedman and SSI CEO Daniel Gross. The funding round values SSI at approximately $5 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter.
SSI's plans involve acquiring significant computing power and recruiting top talent for its teams in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
