Microsoft has announced Recall, a groundbreaking feature for Windows 11 that tracks and remembers everything you do on your computer. In return, it offers a powerful search function to retrieve anything you've done on the device. This tool is part of the Copilot Plus PC package and is exclusively available on devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips.
How Recall works
Recall keeps a record of your activities, including App usage, Live meeting communications, Websites visited for research, And more
You can access this information through a timeline interface, where you can scroll through and search for specific events. Live Captions also allow you to search and transcribe live meetings and videos.
A Familiar Concept, but More Powerful
Microsoft previously introduced Timeline in Windows 10, but it was discontinued in 2021. Recall is a more advanced version, offering deeper integration into Windows. There's also a similar app for Mac called Rewind, but Recall provides native integration and more features.
System Requirements
To use Recall, you'll need a Copilot Plus PC with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chip and at least 256 GB of storage space. The feature requires 50 GB of available space and allocates 25 GB by default, which can store around three months of snapshots.
Privacy and Security
Microsoft ensures that the Recall index remains local and private on your device. You can control what's captured, pause or delete content, and exclude specific apps or websites. Recall also respects your privacy by not taking snapshots of InPrivate browsing sessions or DRM-protected content.
